The orginal terminals A & B at Bush Intercontinental Airport Houston were renovated after asbestos abatement. The renovation included complete upgrade of the HVAC systems in the public and airline spaces along with chill water and air systems in the tunnel connecting the terminals. The work also completely refinished the inside of the concourses leading to the Flight Stations, replacement of the ceiling and flooring in the Flight Stations and the HVAC and ceilings in the airline service areas below.
The work required relocating each of the 24 airline's back-offices and shop services as each area underwent abatement, installation of new HVAC systems and then restoration of the interior walls, ceilings, flooring and all miscellaneous built in furnishings and appurtenances. Also included was work in the tunnel systems and complete overhaul of the lighting in the central terminal space in each terminal. The process was continuously interupted by changes to the design to accomodate different conditions left by the abatement and varying desires of the air lines. To support the required quick agreements and in depth record keeping we developed a database tracking system that provided the needed versatility not provided by the old spread sheet approach. Regular attendance to airport operations meetings and working with the staff from top to bottom led to becoming part of the airport operations team dedicated to keeping the airport moving while renovating all public and airline spaces. |
